Study Setting

The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is a tertiary-care pediatric teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Ottawa. It serves patients up to 18 years of age from the municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, as well as surrounding communities in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec (total pediatric population over 500,000).

The Emergency Department (ED) has 66,000 patient visits per year and is staffed 24/7 by specialty-trained Emergency Physicians (EPs). Additional personnel include part-time physicians as well as medical students, residents from various programs and Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellows at various levels of training.
